Free Essay: “A View from the Bridge” is a tragic play written by Arthur Miller, based on the concept of illegal immigrants being snitched on by their own.
Rodolpho tries to take responsibility to try to avert tragedy. This is the chance for the crisis to be averted but it won't be because of the way the play is. Greek tragedy.
He is an Italian immigrant that moved illegally to the United States with his brother Rodolpho to work as longshoremen, since at the time (the play was written in 1955) his country of origin, Italy, was going through a major economic depression because of the outcome of World War II.
Eddie paints Rodolpho as an untrustworthy Italian who has come to get a citizen-ship by marrying Catherine. Dislikes him from the moment Catherine starts taking interest in him. When they start dating Eddie gets angry with Rodolpho for defending Catherine when they both come back.
These tell us that Rodolpho has a romantic relationship with Catherine and he does want to marry her. The second quotes almost tells us that Rodolpho is acting smug after being in the bedroom with Catherine almost rubbing it in Eddie's face as he can never have this kind of relationship with her and that he has taken her away from Eddie.
Free Essay: Eddie is the more traditional man, whilst Rodolpho is the opposite; he is quite modern, which is what Eddie hates him for. Rodolpho can do.
We also see in several scenes that Marco's first instinct is to be a peacemaker. He constantly tries to defuse the growing tension between Eddie and Rodolpho. He does this by asserting his big brother influence on his younger bro. He tells Rodolpho to be respectful of Eddie's wishes, even as Eddie's demands become increasingly irrational.
